I drove by you the other day a few days before Thanks and Giving
People loaded their supermarket treasures Into their four wheeled fortresses too busy not even realizing how treasured their lives are
A full parking lot annoyed people eye rolling and honking too
You stood there full of heart-home but probably fortress-less smiling and playing the drum
I drove by you the other day wondering if you are worthy of my money while a few minutes before I walked past the supermarket aisles not once wondering if the herbal tea sitting on the shelf is worth my money
I drove by you the other day a few days before Thanks and Giving wondering if my giving will be taken by someone who will just stuff his pockets secretly having more than I do smiling and drumming and playing me
I drove by you the other day wondering if after I give you my hard earned money you might drive off in your easy earned car
I drove by you the other day wondering if I only acknowledge you today because it’s cold and a few days before Thanks and Giving and my cash for you adds to the karma bank of mine
I drove by you the other day handing you my dollar bills the ones I always carry for drummers of life like you
Your icy cold hands were no match for the warm smile you gave me
I drove by you the other day a few days before Thanks and Giving
I was glad I stopped to gift TO you but when I drove off I felt blessed to have been gifted BY you
For when I drove by you the other day a few days before Thanks and Giving
I realized
It wasn’t just your smiling face through my open car window your hand to your heart and the gratitude in your words
I understood once again that when Thanks and Giving meet as one the Giver and Receiver are One
One facet of the One drumming at the corner in the cold One facet of the One sitting cozy in a warm car
The window opens hands touch for the exchange and the One has met itself.
